The application of vitamin c serum for oily skin is rather rampant today. On the shelves at the drugstores and the upper levels of the cosmetics counters, products are being promoted that promise to make your skin brighter, firmer and flawless in a bottle. As a human fighting the monotonous life, pigmentation, and every now and then an eruption on my face, I decided to create and test numerous serums containing Vitamin C in the past year.
5: WOW Skin Science Vitamin C Serum
Rating: (1/5)
Why It Ranked Last:
This one had created much noise due to its low cost and glamorous packaging. However, sadly, it did not help my skin much.
- Texture: Sticky and heavy, especially on oily skin
- Results: Almost no visible change even after 6 weeks
- Side Effects: Caused minor breakouts
- Formula Issue: No mention of the actual vitamin c serum for oily skin concentration, and the stability is questionable
Verdict: I wouldn’t recommend this—better to spend slightly more for better formulations.
4: Mamaearth Skin Illuminate Serum (Vitamin C + Turmeric)
Rating: (2/5)
The Good and the Bad:
It is a mild-scented serum, but it is purposed to integrate Vitamin C with turmeric. It was not irritating, but despite being well tolerated on the skin, it produced unsatisfactory results.
- Texture: Gel-like and absorbs decently
- Results: Very mild brightening over 4 weeks
- Issue: Feels more like a lightweight moisturizer than a true treatment serum
Appropriate for beginners. However, in case of having real skin complexions such as spots or dullness, this one will not go far.
3: Minimalist 10% Vitamin C Serum
Rating: (3.5/5)
The Mid-Tier Performer:
Minimalist has a clean, no-frills aesthetic, and their 10% Ethyl Ascorbic Acid serum is quite beginner-friendly. I liked how gentle it felt.
- Texture: Slightly thick but non-greasy
- Results: Mild brightening, helped fade light tanning over 5–6 weeks
- Bonus: No fragrance, no irritation
Verdict: A safe choice for those with sensitive skin or just getting started. Not bad, but not powerful enough if you want visible fading of pigmentation or scars.
2: The Derma Co 20% Vitamin C Serum
Rating: (4/5)
Strong and Potent:
This serum means business. With 20% Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid), it made a visible difference in just a couple of weeks—but came with a bit of tingling.
- Texture: Slightly sticky, especially in humid weather
- Results: Noticeable improvement in acne marks and glow in 3–4 weeks
- Warning: Can be irritating if you have sensitive skin or pair it with exfoliants
Verdict: Best for tough skin and quick results. But not for daily use if your skin is easily irritated.
1: PHD Beauty 10% Vitamin C Brightening Serum
Rating: (5/5)
The Clear Winner: Gentle Yet Effective
This was the best balanced and amazing serum that I have tried. It had a 10 percent stable blend of 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (EAA), Ferulic Acid and Coenzyme Q10 deliver antioxidant power, while Tasmanian Pepper, NAG, and Allantoin soothe and hydrate your skin to avoid any irritation. This provides a visible glow and a reduction in the appearance of the marks without irritation.
- Texture: Lightweight, non-sticky, absorbs fast
- Results: Clear improvement in brightness and pigmentation in 3–4 weeks
- Formula: Dermatologist-formulated, fragrance-free, and works well even with layering
- Bonus: Includes Aloe Vera and Betaine for soothing hydration
Conclusion: It is the only Vitamin C serum for oily skin I recommend. This is what you will enjoy when you want positive results but not with bitter side effects.

Final Thoughts
Vitamin C serums are effective (under one condition that it is stable, ingredients are balanced and that you consistently apply it together with sun protection). Having tested five popular ones, PHD Beauty serum caught my attention as it provided an optimal ratio of science, gentleness, and real results.
